Personality

Eiffel doesn't say anything that can be said in ten words or less. He is full of words, sass and quotes and has some genuine difficulty in answering things in a straightforward and concise manner. He's also an absolutely horrible liar and a chronic people pleaser, and when caught in the middle of an argument he can and will try to please both sides at once, which of course constantly backfires horribly on him. Every third line out of his mouth is some sort of reference or long-winded comeback. He's such a bad liar that he can't even say a basic 'no' convincingly, and alternates between drawing every word out like he'll think of the right thing to say midway through (which rarely works), or just vomits all his words out in one breath and shuts down the comms line.

However, that doesn't mean he's not unintelligent. He has a habit of coasting by on the path of least resistance, but he's a talented communications officer and at the very least is physically and mentally capable enough to work as an active astronaut for two years. He knows exactly where he lands in local hierarchies and makes the most of the limits and rules that entails for him, and will do as he's commanded (but he'll bitch about it the entire time). He's technically a trained marksman. He comes across as oblivious and not paying the slightest bits of attention - which, to a certain extent, is actually true - but he retains information like a champ, and is observant enough to be able to manipulate people who are objectively much smarter than him, simply by knowing the right things to get under their skin. While he may be unwilling to do something as pedestrian and boring as 'routine maintenance checks' he's still objectively an expert when he comes to communications, and gets invested in his work easily and efficiently.

Despite the confidence and competence he has in his work, he considers it a hobby, not a career, and has an actually horrible sense of self-worth. This only got worse when it was revealed he was host to an experimental, lethal retrovirus that was made and kept dormant by their resident mad Kremlin scientist. He doesn't consider himself much more than a walking corpse, and that his job description consisted of, principally, "has a pulse", and is often, privately, self-conscious of being the load on the team. He'll gladly revel and take refuge in the fact he's a coward and a lackey, and will gush about following Mikowski's lead, but he is actually, genuinely afraid of his own history coming to light due to the way he believes it will change people's opinions of him. However, he also recognises that he's not the most grounded of people, and balks at being left in control of anything more important than his little communications room - except, specifically, when other people are being crazier than him (such as spending two weeks stalking a sentient, adaptive plant monster through the halls of the ship) and then he's capable, and openly unwilling, to act as the voice of reason.

Despite his light-hearted and playful persona, though, Eiffel can be a man of pretty strict self-discipline. He will always stand firm on his beliefs and actions, and when he does actually sincerely set on a task, he does complete it to the best of his ability.

In summary: he's a bitch. But a loving one. And that's important.

Fun trivia: He hates wearing space suits. Really bad with kids. Has previously worked at Pizza Hut. Severely arachnophobic. Once used the word 'basically' thirteen times in five minutes. Gets slappy with himself to psych himself up. Enjoys games of intellect, and is moderately competitive. Lost a bet not to make pop references for an hour, at 59min 20seconds. Blood type: B-.

Ten things Eiffel misses most in space (possibly facetious): Beer, cigarettes, pizza, sex, whiskey, blackjack, porn, monster trucks, tequila, video on demand. Yup. Haven't changed.
