Root chuckles softly. They're adorable.

"I wanna dress up like the singing telegram girl next time we have a costume party," she says, giving not one single iota it's an unprompted thing to say.

"Hallo--" Shaw starts, before remembering that Halloween already happened and she coma'd through it. "Uh. Mardi Gras?"

"Sexy Valentine's Day costume?" he offers.

"Why not both?" Root grind and leans in to stage whisper to Shaw, "Or private showings."

"Do we care about Valentine's Day?" wonders Shaw, who absolutely does not but isn't completely sure she can confidently say the same about Root. Maybe she doesn't care because it's cheesy and commercialized, or maybe she does because she's a secret sap. Shaw figures it could go either way.

"We care about chocolate," Root clarifies. "We don't need Valentine's Day to have a good time."

Would she say no to a little extra fun on Valentine's Day? No. Would she be mad if they just ignored it altogether? Also no, even if Root does like the aesthetic of red and roses and thorns and decadence and...

"I don't think the next port is 'til, uhhh." He counts off on his fingers briefly. "...March. So you're gonna be way too late for the post-Valentine's day sales, if we get to go somewhere that even has it."

"Root could probably wheedle the kitchen staff into giving her the ingredients to make it," Shaw points out, giving her a little nudge.

"Or I can get Tim to ask the Admiral for chocolate. Or either of you!"

"Hey, who needs the Admiral when we can probably get Neal to do our dirty work for us?" he points out like it's a whole-ass conspiracy that their brother likes to cook.

"If we put Neal and Root in the kitchen together, do you think they'd kill each other? Chefs don't like sharing space, right?"

"Depends. You can't put two betta fish in the same tank or they kill each other, right?"

"Oh my god. Root."

Shaw's eyes widen, as if she's just clicked two pieces together.

"You're a betta fish."

"It's true," Root laments, sighing dramatically. "And I like Neal too much to fight him to the death. Now, if we use separate kitchens, I can see this working out."
