Malcolm hates the idea of doing this stuff with people he doesn't love and trust implicitly. i hate the idea of doing it with people i do. that way, there's no personal danger if it goes wrong.

i know it's not like it was with Neal. Malcolm doesn't mean to you what he meant to Neal. but the idea still really sucks.

i confronted her about avoiding me

first time i learned anyone on the ship knew about my sentence

once we had a talk about it, i told everyone else so there couldn't be any more nasty surprises about it

surprisingly well, when i got to explain it with actual context

didn't feel good that the SI5 guys could brush it off so easy but they're fucking weird anyway so

but if it's gonna happen anyway, at least you know you're not gonna scare me off

and malcolm likes me so i fulfil his weird requirement of 'must be someone i can hero worship'

i want someone who's more coworker than friend. someone who's kind to malcolm and wants the best for him, but who doesn't think that being kind to him and wanting the best for him is the same thing as believing he doesn't have to change anything about how he comports himself. those are a lot of slots for a single person to fit into.

and as long as you pick someone who's not a total asshole about it then you should be able to find someone pretty easy who can tell someone they're being stupid without telling them they're being STUPID
