He's already keyed-up with icy calm alarm once Shaw calls him; as soon as he steps out of his own cabin, he's hit with a crush of rage like free-falling into a gas giant. He doubles over with it it, for a moment. He wants to open his whole head in one dark maw, he wants to lay ruin -

He has. An objective. He clenches his fists, tenses his core, and drags himself through the air to the stairwell. The effort of it dips all his bones in magma; he drapes for a moment over the staircase railing, panting as the wash of pain leaves a little clarity in its wake. He's still furious. Clearly, something is happening. Did he miss a flood announcement? Is the timeline off? Is the Admiral's bullshit fucking Calendar fucking them over?

Right now, Eiffel is the priority. He raps sharply on the door.

"Eiffel, it's Jedao. Please open the door." It comes out in a raw, raspy croak. Eiffel had better open the skullfucking door - if someone put him in danger again -

Eiffel is already a little bit tense from getting that horrible call from Shaw and he yanks it open immediately - and then looks startled at the intensity with which Jedao's holding himself.

"Dude- what the hell? Are you alright?" He's immediately stepping into the hallway to check on Jedao, grabbing his shoulders to look over him, and pretty much as soon as he does Jedao might well feel the temperature rise from him; and almost immediately there's a ruddy flush across his cheeks, and the grip is quickly to keep himself upright more than Jedao. "God- hold on." He takes a hand back to rub his face. "Look, something's wrong with Shaw, we gotta find her-"

[Though he's been revived for a while now, Crozier's still sounding super rough. But he's made a promise to his inmate, and by God, he's going to keep it.]

When you have a moment I'd like to ask you about the Decima virus. I realize I'd not broached the subject with you before, but I feel we both may be at a bit of a crossroads

Mainly, how would you feel if asked to give a sample to Doctor Hilbert, with the intention of finding a new vessel that has given consent to have their body used as an incubator for the virus? A choice you were not given.

[There's a long, loud exhale from Eiffel at that. Not for any specific emotion, just that it's a lot.]

Well, there's two problems with getting that off of me, captain. First of all, I'm not a clean copy of Decima anymore. Not since the good doctor himself had to get two liters of O-negative in me from our captain to keep me from bleeding out internally - 'cos that blood turned out to be from an alien that's giving me super-healing powers. Any sample he gets from me is gonna have that in it, and it's gonna give him a lot of false positives if he expects Decima to heal anything.

And secondly - I don't actually have it in me right now. Hilbert and I had a talk, after he got horribly murdered, and I got it wiped from my system again, so I'm tapped out of killer virus right now.

Sameen isn't afraid the way she knows a lot of kids would be in her position, but she is aware of how many things there are that she doesn't know how to do on her own, or just plain can't do on her own. Her parents are raising her to be responsible and independent, but she's also in elementary school, and "responsible and independent" for a fourth grader does not in any way involve knowing how to completely fend for herself for a week. So when she spots Eiffel in the hallway, she knows exactly what she should do. She doesn't know him know him, but she knows who he is, and she knows that he'll probably know who she is, too. And even if he doesn't, she knows he's still someone who can be trusted.

Which means that she's going to walk right up to him and say, "I'm Sameen Shaw. I'm nine, and my parents aren't here. Can you take care of me, please?"

Eiffel had been wondering what the hell was going to happen, when he'd opened his door and found a weird little present that he's pretty sure wouldn't have come from his immediate circle of friends. So a tiny girl coming up to him like she owned the place was- probably less surprising than it should have been?

Her announcement to him is very much a surprise. So he just. Stops and stares at her for a hot minute.

"You're Sameen Shaw." He sounds very much in disbelief.

It's not a gun in Hakkai's pocket that's nudging up against Eiffel's hip by the time he finally breaks the kiss; he has to clear his throat twice before he trusts his voice to sound anywhere near normal.

"Couch?" he suggests, digging his fingers deeper into the curls at the nape of Eiffel's neck. His smile is artlessly delighted, full of affection. "I don't want to drop you."

The grip on his scalp is paralysingly good, but he manages to nod through the pleasant tug and a mumbled "Okay, y-yeah, sure..." as he gets his feet back under him. Even though he's pretty much completely ready for Hakkai to take him right against the door, he does help Hakkai to the couch instead.

[In a slightly more successful sing-song tone, since Eiffel actually can sing a little, it's only a few seconds before he pulls the door open - there's gravity today, so he's at floor level.

And as soon as he sees Roman, his eyes widen, and he is immediately concerned.]

[This was bad, right? Scratch that, this was super bad. He's never seen Roman as anything less than fully business presentable in public; even casual and chill was a loose tie and rolled cuffs, like a classy barfly. Something was seriously badly newly wrong.]

Oh, dude, come in, get your cozy on, you're already half dressed for it. [And he'll usher Roman into his room if there's no protest.]

[Eiffel's the first one he hits up when he makes his decision. Hell, Eiffel's the only one he doesn't hesitate to do. He digs in his closet to find the appropriate box, tucks the thing under his arm, and heads over with an ease in his bones he doesn't think he's ever felt before.

This is what it's like to know with the utmost certainty that what you're doing is a good decision.

[Blitzø is on his way back to his apartment to sulk rest and recuperate after his fight and impromptu counselling session with Malcolm, his shoulder and tail bandaged. He's lucky imps are durable and his own pain tolerance levels are very high, but he'd still gotten a bit of a talking to about picking fights.

So he's really not in the mood when he almost walks straight into Eiffel leaving the maintenance office on his floor, right when he's got a straight shot to his apartment and the freedom to crash on his couch and feel sorry for himself.]

...fuck. Wrong level.

[He doesn't care how awkward it is, he is immediately turning around and heading back the way he came. Maybe he can find an empty room to camp out out in until he's certain Eiffel is gone.]

[Eiffel is not a graceful creature, so most of the effort of not crashing is on Blitzø's part - but he is deceptively fast, when he wants to be, and as the imp turns away he'll quickly find there's a big meaty claw grabbing his tail.]
